How to consume an API within ASP.NET?

Hello,
i am trying to find ways of how to consume api within the .Net environment but i struggle to find example of doing that.
Are there any resources out there in order to learn how to do that? https://birthdaywishes.onl/
I was asked in an interview to make a small project about that thing and couldn't find any references.
What are the best practice of doing that?
I can make an api but when i was asked ways to consume an external api i felt i knew nothing.
