Extending / modifying grid?

How feasible is it to add features or change functionality of the data grid? Are there examples of users who have forked the grid repo(s) and made changes that way? Let me know if there is any guide or best practices for doing this. Thanks

I actually don't have a feature in mind right now, but for this project it's likely something will come up. 

I've been looking at the typescript source, just wondering if there is any documentation that would help. 

But maybe the answer is just that I should seek support from you if/when I want to make an extension that's not straight forward.
