upgrading from .net 1.1 to .net 3.5

hi

we have a project written in visual studio 2003 .net 1.1
we want to upgrade it to visual studio 2008 .net 3.5
the project uses a lot of syncfusion controls in the 2003 version.
is the new syncfusion kit backwards compatble
or will we need to write all of these code parts again?

Essential Studio 2008 Volumn1 compatible with the Visual Studio 2008 and provides backward compatibility.

I would like to emphasize that the version we are currently using is 2.1.0.9 which is not quite recent to say the least…

Our project is using your grid view, and more than a few components from the Essential Tools package.

We are about to migrate to the latest version - 6.1.0.34.

1) Are the components backwards compatible far enough so that in order to use the new version, few (if any?) changes would be required in the code?

2) Back then, we needed RTL (Right to Left) support on some of the controls (especially the grids), and we received from you a special version of 2.1.0.9 that supports this feature. Would we need to do the same thing now? Or does the current version natively supports RTL?

Hi Moriya,

The preferred way to upgrade to new version is to uninstall prior versions of Essential studio and make a manual check that system does not contain any Syncfusion assemblies in GAC and public assemblies folders. Also delete the old installation files if any present in installed location. But you need not change anything to the code of your application.

Now install the v6.1 Essential studio with the given key.

Please follow the below steps to run the existing application:

1) Before opening the application delete the bin and obj folders and temporary files.

2) Use the converter resx(framework 2.0) utility from Start --> All Programs --> Syncfusion --> Essential Studio 6.1.0.34 --> Utilities --> migration -> to convert the resx file to new version 6.1.0.34.

3) Open the application, in the solution explorer. Right click and view the properties of all the Syncfusion DLLs in the references folder. The version property will be pointing to the new version 6.1.0.34 and the 'SpecifcVersion' property should be set to false.

4) Recompile and run the project.


Whatever the features which are available to the previous version are upgraded and available to the latest version. So, the current version also support RTL (Right to Left).
