I see this control in the Toolbox, but I don't see any documentation on it. What is it, and are there any examples of how it would be used?

Check out the XPTaskPaneDemo sample located at:
\Syncfusion\Essential Suite\Tools\samples\Wizard Package\XPTaskPaneDemo

This sample demonstrates how the XPTaskPane control can be used to develop a MS Word like TaskPane.
