General problem, not just associated with this control, but with all sorts of other controls aswell.
When viewing a form in the designer, the IDE thinks about it, and then reports multiple "obj ref not set" exceptions at "line 0" (in the task list). It then proceeds to munge the InitializeComponents fn.
Does anybody know why this occurs and/or how to avoid it??

Not really sure about this. But one rule of thumb is to always rebuild your projects before opening a form in the designer. This way any derived controls on your form will be availble when the designer opens it.
