How to install New Visual Studio 2019 With Exisiting Syncfusion VS2017 Installed. Xamarin projects.

Hi,

I just installed the latest Visual Studio 2019 side by side with my exisitng Visual Studio 2017 which already had SyncFusion Essential Ver 17.1.0.38 installed.

I installed and am trying VS2019 because Micorosft says Android deployment is improved in VS 2019.  I did a quick, unscientific test and a Xamarin Andoroid project with a minor XAML change do deploy slightly faster to a Android Nougat 7.1 Emulator instance.  About 37 sec vs 43 secs.

Unfortunately, the SyncFusion templates and controls are not installed in my new VS2019 installation.  Does SyncFusion have a procedure to re-install/modify SF Essentials for a new Visual Studio instance?  Can this be done without breaking the existing VS2017 SF Essentials installation?

A procedure to re-install/modify a SF Essentials exisitng installation to add a new VS2019 instance would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for contacting Syncfusion support.

Yes. As you have installed Visual Studio 2019 after installed Syncfusion Essential Studio setup v17.1.0.38, you need to install our extension manually (double click the vsix file and click Install) from the below mentioned location to configure Syncfusion Xamarin Project Template and Toolbox in Visual Studio 2019.

Location: {Installed Drive:}\Program Files (x86)\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\Xamarin\{Version}\Utilities\Extensions\Syncfusion Xamarin VSExtensions.vsix

Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\Xamarin\17.1.0.38\Utilities\Extensions\Syncfusion Xamarin VSExtensions.vsix

Refer to the below help link to know more about Syncfusion Xamarin Project Template and Toolbox.

Please let us know this helps you.

Doing what you suggested by clicking on Syncfusion Xamarin VSExtensions.vsix  did work.  However, I have reinstalled my Visual Studio 2019.  I manually uninstalled all the Sync Fusion Items in the Apps list. I them reinstalled them by running syncfusionessentialstudiowebinstaller.exe and it installed everything I requested.  But there  are no extensions in my Visual Studio 2019.  I found the Syncfusion Xamarin VSExtensions.vsix that I ran before and double clicked on it.  Nothing happened.

So I have SyncFusion  Essentials installed. But nothing is showing up in my Visual Studio 2019.  How can I fix??

Also tried manual Visx installation and got this error.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your patience.

We have analyzed the log file which you have shared and suspect that there might be a problem in Visual Studio 2019 reinstallation, since error log states that no Visual Studio installed in your machine. So, please try the repair option from Control Panel to reinstall the Visual Studio 2019 properly and then install our extension and ensure.

Also, please share us the Visual Studio 2019 About windows screenshot from Help menu. It would be much helpful for us to check the reported issue with the same version Visual Studio on our end and provide you the further details.

Regards,
Vadivel Natarajan

RO Robert May 17, 2019 12:29 PM UTC

That fixed it. Thanks.

The problem was that the Visual Studio Installer hadn't completely finished the installation.  I must have seen the 2 installation progress bars at 100% and thought it was done.  When I opened the VSI it had the option to "Resume." It had 3 more things completed the installation.  One said something "MSI" so that must have been the installation component.

Here is the screenshot of my About just for your reference.
