Horizontal/Vertical Flipping of Icons

Hi
I have been attempting to 'flip' an icon about the middle so that the left hand side becomes the right hand side. Is that vertical or horizontal?
Anyway, it appears that, whereas the original icon is nicely centered, the resulting image isn't. It looks OK on the screen, but when it is exported, it gets shifted over to the left.
Am I doing it wrongly?
Any help would be appreciated.
