tooltips for EditControl

I want to have a tooltip for an EditControl, but the standard tooltip class doesn''t seem to work. I tried using Contexttooltips where e.ItemName = "" or null, but that only works if the editcontrol has at least some text in it. When my form initially opens (and the editcontrol is blank) the contexttooltip events don''t fire. Any suggestions?
