Road Map for Essential Studio Document SDK

Road Map for Essential Studio® Document SDK

.NET Excel Library

Chart-to-image conversion

The bar of pie chart will be supported in chart-to-image conversion. This enhancement will ensure that this chart type is accurately represented in the resulting image, providing higher fidelity to the original Excel charts.

Pivot slicer

Pivot slicer support will be added, enabling users to filter pivot tables interactively within Excel workbooks. This feature will enhance data analysis workflows by enabling quick and intuitive filtering of pivot data, thereby making reports more dynamic and user-friendly.

.NET PDF Library

Centralized font management for global thread-safe operations

Currently, font handling in the .NET PDF Library occurs at the document level. To improve performance, resource utilization, and consistency across multi-threaded environments, a centralized font manager will be introduced. This manager will enable global font handling across all threads and documents, ensuring efficient and reliable font operations.

Enhancements in PDF text extraction

Upcoming improvements include:

  • Asynchronous text extraction: Async APIs to enable nonblocking operations, enhancing scalability and responsiveness.
  • Cancellation token integration: Support to gracefully cancel long-running extraction tasks.
  • Performance optimization: Faster extraction for large and complex PDF files.
  • Memory efficiency: Reduced memory footprint during text extraction for better resource management.

Page-level JavaScript actions

This feature introduces functionality to add, edit, and remove JavaScript actions at the page level, enabling developers to create interactive PDFs with dynamic behaviors such as custom navigation, form validation, and automated workflows. This feature provides greater flexibility and control over page-specific scripting, making it easier to deliver rich, interactive document experiences.

.NET Word Library

Ink objects

This features allows users to create, edit, and convert Ink objects within DOCX documents. This enhancement enables the accurate preservation of freehand drawings, annotations, and stylus-based input during PDF and image conversions. By maintaining the visual and interactive integrity of ink content, this feature will be especially valuable for educational, design, and collaborative documents that rely on handwritten or sketch-based elements.

CSS attributes in HTML to Word conversion

The HTML-to-Word conversion utilizing the CSS style attributes feature ensures that complex HTML structures retain their original formatting in Word documents, minimizing visual discrepancies and preserving design fidelity.

Word-to-PDF and image conversion enhancements

Localized Date and Time fields

Date and time fields will be rendered in the appropriate regional format during PDF and image conversions based on the language specified for each field in the Word document. This ensures culturally appropriate formatting for multilingual audiences.

Text borders

Text borders in Word-to-PDF and image conversions ensures that documents with bordered text maintain their original structure and visual emphasis, delivering higher fidelity, and preserving the intended design in the converted output.

.NET PowerPoint Library

Embedded font in PowerPoint conversions

PowerPoint-to-PDF and image conversions will utilize fonts embedded within the source presentation. This ensures accurate text rendering and preserves the original design, delivering high-fidelity output that matches the author’s intent.

JavaScript PDF Library

Redaction enhancement: Image redaction

This enhancement introduces image-level redaction in PDF documents, enabling precise and flexible removal of sensitive or confidential content contained in images.

Adding a timestamp in digital signatures

This feature allows users to apply a trusted timestamp to digital signatures in PDF documents, ensuring signature validity is preserved even after the certificate’s expiration.

Enable Long Term Validation (LTV)

This feature enables long-term signature validation (LTV) by embedding all required validation data within the signed PDF, ensuring signatures remain verifiable long after their creation.

Digital signature validation

This feature provides comprehensive validation for digital signatures in existing PDFs, including checks for document integrity, certificate chain verification, timestamp validation, certificate revocation status (OCSP/CRL), and support for validating multiple signatures.

Date field

This feature supports PDF date form fields, allowing users to create, edit, validate, and format date values consistently within interactive PDF documents.
