My user wanted a report delivered daily in a format they were familiar with. Most people are familiar with MS Excel so that was a natural choice for the report format. I needed to produce the report every morning based on the previous days fire incidents. We wrote an application that processed the data from the previous day and delivered it as an excel spreadsheet via email to my users. They, of course, were focused on the data contained in the report and not the infrastructure or tools that delivered it. But that is exactly the point, isn’t it.
