Office 2007 user interface license

Microsoft recently announced a licencing plan for the Office 2007 user interface...read about it here:

The licence does not include any actual support for creating user interface elements (i.e. no code or API libraries are included). It appears that Microsoft is licensing the "look and feel" of Office 2007, regardless of how it is implemented. (BTW, in most cases the licence is royalty free.)

I'm wonder what that means for Syncfusion users. If we use Essential Tools to implement an application with an Office 2007 user interface, are we required to get a license from Microsoft?

Hello Eric,

Thanks for your interest in Essential Tools' Office 2007 support. The license agreement that ships with our latest release, Essential Studio 4.4, includes details about Office 2007 licensing. I'll send that to you via email in a moment so you can review.

In brief, if you'd like to incorporate the Microsoft® Office 2007 User Interface in Customer’s software products, you'll have to obtain a license directly from Microsoft®. Information regarding obtaining such a license and your obligations with regard to certain use restrictions may be obtained from Microsoft® at http://msdn.microsoft.com/officeui.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if you have further questions.

Best regards,
Sierra
