There is a character encoding error when opening a CSV file.

When I open a CSV file, the text is transformed into a different format.

Here is a sample file.

Hi Ngoc Hoang,

We have validated your query based on the provided details. Upon investigation, we found that our server is correctly processing the Excel file and return the proper value.

However, during the process of sending it to the client, some characters are altered during encoding. Additionally, copying and pasting the value from MS-Excel to other environment also changes certain characters. We are investigating this encoding process on our end we will update you with further details within two business days(March 28, 2025).

Meanwhile, could you please share the server and client-side versions you are using for us to validate further regarding this.

With regards,

Deira Raj Rajkumar.

Thank you for your response.
I have accessed this demo page to import that file.

Hi Ngoc Hoang,

Thank you for your patience. We have further investigated the encoding issue based on the provided details. While we confirmed that our server processes the Excel file correctly and returns the expected values, we observed that some characters are altered during transmission to the client.

To better understand the root cause, we tested multiple scenarios on our end.

This included verifying:

  • The file's encoding format during both server-side processing and client-side rendering.
  • The behavior when transferring the file through different methods.
  • The impact of copying and pasting values from Excel into other environments, which also caused character alterations.

But we have not yet identified the exact cause of the issue. Our team is continuing to investigate this further with high priority, and we will provide you with an update on or before April 2, 2025.

We appreciate your patience and understanding in the meantime.

With regards,

Deira

Hi Ngoc Hoang,

Thank you for your patience. We tried to open your shared CSV file in Notepad++ and found that the characters are in Japanese. Upon checking the text encoding, we confirmed that it is encoded in UTF-8. To verify this, we created a blank workbook in Excel and attempted to load your CSV file. We observed that when encoded as UTF-8, the characters still appear in Japanese.

It seems that the file you shared does not fully adhere to the UTF-8 format and may use a different encoding. We suspect that you might have used a different encoding on your end, which is why the Japanese characters are displayed incorrectly.

For your reference we have shared a video demonstrating the above scenario.

Reference output - refer to the attachment

As of now in our end, we are processing the CSV file without specifying the encoding, which results in mismatched characters between your shared file and our spreadsheet.

To validate further on our end, kindly share the below details from your end:

  1. Could you please share details on which format you have used to encode the generated CSV file?  Based on that we will also try the encoding process on our end and validate further regarding this.
  2. Kindly please confirm if you are facing this while loading your shared Excel file in UTF-8 format in our spreadsheet.

Please share the above details with your end for us to validate further regarding your reported issue.

With regards,

Deira
