Textbox value is overriden by selected item as we navigate the dropdown list

Is there a way to limit the textbox value to be changed only when a selection is made?

Let's say I type sa in the multiselect email sample in visual studio, it shows this

but when I do down the dropdown list, my "sa" is automatically changed to the name in the selection

 

Expected behaviour is to keep whatever text I had entered like this:
