hierarchical grid

I tried to figure out how a hierarchical grid works. I played around with the "ExpandGrid" sample and some questions came up:

How can a user add rows in that example? I didn''t find any way how a user can add rows to a childtable. And a user cannot add rows at the root level and add child rows to it. Is there any way to do this?

I''m using version 1.6.1.8.
