Traditionally combo boxes allow you to access and set the index of the selected item, but these do not? It makes it inconvenient to get at the position of the selected item; instead I have to continually search through the ChoiceList for a match.

The ComboBoxBarItem tries to provide you access to the combo like control in the toolbar. This controls is also not a traditional combobox (which cannot be used in a toolbar/menu). Hence the short-comming.
I will make this a feature request for our next release.
