The full SF Essential Studio Installer takes a lifetime to install!
I've started the installer at 11:30 o clock. It's now 14:30 and installer still is telling me "Preparing to install, 0% completed".
Running on a system with 16GB RAM, i7 and installing on a SSD!
I do understand that the whole Essential Studio is installing very much components. I understand that installing several GB will take it's time - of course. BUT for me it looks like your installer is simply doing nothing. Nothing:
When I switch to task manager it's showing me 0% CPU consummation for the installer and a "disc write time" of 0,0 KB/sec for 80% of the time and 25 KB/sec "disc write time" for the other 20%. This experience is a complete nightmare. My guess at the moment is that this lame installer will take a whole week to complete. Why is that? Why is your installer idle for > 80% of the time? To prevent a HD from overheating? Couldn't you "unlock" this "feature" for SSDs?
I had to cancel this. Frustrating!
The smaller downloads (like f.e. SF Essential Studio for UWP or WinForms or WPF) seem to performe better.
edit: the "better performance" is just true for the 15.4.0.17 installer. The Service Pack installer 15.4.0.20 for SF Essential Studio UWP (and that's a tiny package compared to others) is running since 15min and "hanging" (?) at 78%. But it's not completely idle, writing to disc with 200-400 KB/sec (which is very slow for a SSD btw).
