Visual Studio 2017 Toolbox Empty

Hi,

I have VS 2017 Community and installed Essentials Studio. I was hugely confused as to why the toolbox didn't have any of the control for WinForms. So, I tried to use the Toolbox Installer. I can see VS 2017 in the list and it is checked so I ran it. Still, nothing showed up, even after rebooting my computer. So, after some looking, I saw the stated support of .Net Framework versions as 4.6. So, I went to install Visual Studio 2015 Community. I reran the Toolbox Installer, but still nothing in either.

I completely removed Essentials Studio and reinstalled it. Now, I can see the toolbox items in VS 2015. However, they still don't show in VS 2017. Mind you, I can see the project templates in VS 2017 fine. However, without the toolbox controls, this isn't all too helpful. I've made sure the VSIX packages are installed into VS 2017, reran the Toolbox Installer utility noting that both VS 2015 and 2017 were selected and clicking on Perform Action. Still, these don't show in 2017. How do I fix this?

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Q1) Regarding Toolbox configuration in Visual Studio 2017.

A1) We are able to reproduce the reported issue only in the latest update of Visual Studio 2017 (15.4). Please follow the below steps to resolve the reported issue.

1. Open the Visual Studio 2017 and go to Tools->Extensions and Updates.

2. Uninstall the Syncfusion ToolBox Installer extension and close the Visual Studio.

3. Download and extract the Syncfusion.zip from the below link.

http://www.syncfusion.com/downloads/support/directtrac/general/ze/Syncfusion533031407

4. Take a backup of ToolBoxInstallers folder from the below location.

Location:
{ProgramFilesFolder}\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\{version}\Utilities

Example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\15.3.0.33\Utilities

5. Copy and replace the ToolBoxInstallers folder from the extracted zip file to the above location.

6. Follow the steps suggested in the following documentation link and configure the Syncfusion controls in Visual Studio toolbox.

https://help.syncfusion.com/common/essential-studio/utilities#toolbox-configuration

7. Open the Visual Studio 2017 , disable Syncfusion ToolBox Installer extension and close the Visual Studio.

8. Now, enable the Syncfusion ToolBox Installer extension and restart the machine.

9. Syncfusion controls will be configured in Visual Studio 2017 toolbox.

We have fixed this issue and the fix will be included in our upcoming 2017 Volume 4 release.

If you still face any issues, please share us the following details. It would be much helpful for us to analyze the reported issue.

1. Follow the steps suggested in the below KB article link and send us the zip file which consists of complete Syncfusion Installer logs generated by our tool.

2. Let us know your convenient time to schedule a web meeting to check the issue in your machine.

Q2) So, after some looking, I saw the stated support of .Net Framework versions as 4.6. So, I went to install Visual Studio 2015 Community. I reran the Toolbox Installer, but still nothing in either.

A2) Since you have installed the Visual Studio 2015 after installing the Syncfusion Essential Studio, you should click the Recheck button at the bottom of the Syncfusion Control Panel to refresh the recently installed software in your machine. Also, it detected the Visual Studio 2015 as you have uninstalled the Essential Studio and installed again. Please refer the following KB article link for more information.
