Jonathan Bolton is a senior programmer for C&D Technologies, Inc., a technology company based in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. C&D Technologies manufactures lead–acid storage batteries and electronics for standby power applications. Bolton primarily uses the IBM System i platform, using Visual RPG to work on small projects for individual users.
Many of the small projects Bolton works on involve extracting data from the system into spreadsheets or uploading data from spreadsheets into the system. While there are many pure .NET methods available to work with spreadsheets (specifically XLS or XLSX files), most involve the Clipboard, which is a very slow process.
Bolton used Essential XIsIO to work with spreadsheets, and utilized the DataGrid control in particular to make the process much easier. The suite helped add significant flexibility to his work, and provided Bolton with better insight into the .NET world.In addition, he received helpful how-to explanations from the Syncfusion support team, allowing him to cut his development time by more than 30 percent.
