Microsoft MAUI with Syncfusion Roadmap

I would like to migrate an existing Xamarin.Forms (Android, iOS, UWP) application to the new .NET MAUI (6.0). I know it is really early for this but Microsoft has got MAUI somewhat working in Visual Studio 2019 16.11.0 Preview 1 even including a project template for MAUI.  I was interested how quick Syncfusion would have MAUI beta controls. Or how well will the current controls work if you turn on Xamarin.Forms.Compatiabilty in MAUI so it can use the Xamarin Renders instead of the new MAUI handlers.  Give us some guidance on how we can get started with Syncfusion Xamarin controls in MAUI, please...

Steve

With the release of .NET 6.0 Maui Preview 5,  can you give us a rough time of when you might publish a preview or Beta of your Syncfusion Controls for the .NET Multi-platform App UI (MAUI)?  Maybe a little better timeframe than the near future?

Steve

Hi Steve Graddy,

Thanks for the update.

You can expect our first set of .NET MAUI controls (preview) with our Vol 3 2021 release, which is scheduled at the end of September 2021. We appreciate your patience until then.

If we begin a new project now using Syncfusion controls with the intention of porting it to MAUI this fall, is there a technology you would recommend starting with (WPF, Blazor, ASP.NET Core, Xamarin Forms) that would make the porting of your controls the easiest? (I'm hoping not Xamarin Forms because we need the TreeGrid control which isn't in XF...)

Hi Phil,

We are currently validating on this and we will update complete details on June 29, 2021. We appreciate your patience until then.

Hello,

We renewed recently the Xamarin Licence looking forward for the MAUI upgrade (that is almost just a Xamarin "revamp"). Does it means we will need to purchase also a licence for MAUI or the Xamarin Licence will benefit us for a free MAUI licence (at least until the end of the actual  Xamarin Licence) ?

Best Regards

Hi MANUEL,

Sorry for the delay.

There will not be a separate license for Xamarin MAUI as it is an advancement version of existing Xamarin.

Suganya Sethuraman.

How fast are you going to add new controls to the suite?  Will you update your preview on a monthly release schedule or will you wait until you publish a quarterly update on the Volume releases?

I was disappointed that you only released 3 controls and would have really liked some of your more basic controls that you use for page creation and usage. I know charts are important but would have liked some controls we get have started prototyping with.

But hey you guys are the best and have supported me for over twenty years so I know you will come along as you can.  :)

Steve

Not all controls are released with Vol 3 release. Could you please create a compatibility packages for others (that still use custom renderers like what was done with Xamarin.CommunityToolkit.MauiCompat https://devblogs.microsoft.com/xamarin/introducing-net-maui-compatibility-for-the-xamarin-community-toolkit/), and then obsolete them as MAUI-native packages will be ready.

I'm particularly interested in SfSchedule and SfCheckBox.

SS Suganya Sethuraman Syncfusion Team October 1, 2021 11:31 AM UTC

Hi Steve,

We will not update our preview on a monthly basis but will update our improvement on released controls, in the weekly NuGet release. As per our plan, we will release another set of controls in Volume 4 2021 and the number of controls will gradually increase every release.

We will really consider your feedback about the minimal control release in Volume 3 2021. We are thankful for your great response to our Xamarin UI controls. Your support and feedback helped in making our Xamarin controls a market leader. You can expect almost all our Xamarin.Forms controls in our .NET MAUI suite, and they should perform even better in this platform. But due to the framework stability, our release is getting delayed. Also, .NET MAUI team leaves breaking changes in their every preview, and they postponed their stable release to 2022. The stability of the framework will indirectly affect our controls stability too. So, we need some time to provide you a stable and feature-rich control. Also, we will take the benefit of handler architecture for better performance. So, our new controls will have better APIs, and will perform better than Xamarin.Forms.

We will promise you that we will bring amusing .NET MAUI controls before or along .NET MAUI GA release. Also, please feel free to update the control list, based on your requirements, we will try plan our priorities.

Regards,
Suganya Sethuraman.

Hi Maksym,

We already have plans to provide the MauiCompat library for our Xamarin.Forms controls that will become obsolete over the time. You can expect this support in the beginning of 2022.

Suganya Sethuraman.

Any update on this?

I've over 40 views in a large mobile app that has now been fully ported to Maui apart from sf components, the MauiCompat packages would allow me to actually release it

VV Vijayakumar Viswanathan Syncfusion Team August 15, 2022 10:37 AM UTC

Hi David,

Thanks for the update

Already we have planned for the 2022 year release controls and published one blog. Below are the blog details.

Blog Link: https://www.syncfusion.com/blogs/post/syncfusion-net-maui-2022-roadmap.aspx

The above blog only has the 2022 year promised controls. We will publish the 2023 year controls release plan later.  Please let us know the Syncfusion control used in your application, we will share the exact volume release for all controls.

Syncfusion Team,

In your 2022 roadmap blog page, I noticed initially that, "ImageEditor" was part of 2022 release.

But, now this control is not available in 2022 roadmap anymore. Is there any plan when this control can be available in .Net Maui?

One of our apps, requires image cropping feature for user profile picture.

Thanks,

Milan Gohil

RS Ruba Shanmugam Syncfusion Team November 1, 2022 01:08 PM UTC

Hi Milan,

Due to internal changes, we didn't implement an Image editor in the 2022 plan. We will consider this control in any of our upcoming releases.
