nodes no longer selectable

Question

My application first adds a set of nodes.
Then adds connector lines for some of the nodes.

I am connecting nodes with line connector type straight and intermediate points.

Sometimes after connecting the nodes, other nodes can no longer be selected.

Is there something I can execute to make all the nodes selectable again after connecting the lines.

I found the problem.  I was adding layers (for use in hiding a group of nodes/lines).  The layer was being selected instead of the actual node.
