How to draw custom connection between 2 nodes?

Hello,

In the old version of the diagram I created special tool, that used a factory function to draw a connection between 2 nodes.
This connection was an ordinary line with a square in the middle of it.

In new version I can't understand or find an example, how I can achieve the same: connection line with an arrow on one side and some shapes (square, triangle or whatever) in the middle of it.
