Remove Form Field object from document

I have a word doc with form fields acting as template. In my app, at runtime I want to not simply fill the Text property of the form field.

Instead, I want to remove the form field and insert a TextRange object. I have the insert working as desired, but I'm struggling to easily remove the original form field. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
