Convert points to mm and vice versa

Hi.
I need to set the sizes of page and fields in millimeters, but DocIO seems to accept only points - could anyone suggest how do I convert them?
I know that 1 point is 1/72 inch, but I need some kind of device independent algorithm, because I believe that 1/72 inch depends on screen resolution - isn't it?
