Entering a formula, say =getArea("Feca[Basement]"), which is a custom formula in our application throws an error. Replacing the square brackets with regular round brackets avoids the problem. As we're writing a new version of an existing product we would like to maintain existing functionality unaltered. It seems resonable that any character should be permissable within a string literal. Is it possible (by setting some property on the grid, for example) to use [ ] within a formula? Or is this a bug?

This is a defect. The GridFormulaEngine can properly handle the []'s in stings that are not Library Function arguments (but the parsing fails when such strings are in Function Arguments). We will add this problem to our defects database and it should be corrected shortly with the correction appearing in our daily builds within a day or so. If you need a build with the correction before the next release, submit a Direct Trac support incident requesting access to a daily build that has the defect corrected.
