Tab strip /multipage disappear after making a call back.

I have a tab strip and mulitpage inside a callback panel the controls load fine however when a callback is made the controls disappear.

The controls are inside a callback panel which is inside of a usercontrol. I am using client side script to allow the multipage index to chamge which on intial load works fine however when the call back is made it all disappears. The control making the call back is not inside the callback panel however this should not matter.
