Well evaluating Essential Diagram for a project that we are developing it has almost all the functionality required which mostly deals with drawing shapes on a vector image and then saving the shapes in vector image files. The problem is that I don''t see a support in Essential Diagram available to load CAD files i.e. files of format (DWG or DXF) which are required in our project. Can you provide me with the required information on this so that I can make the final decision on using it in our project or not.

Hi Usman,
Exporting a diagram document to DXF/DWG format should not be a problem. Essential Diagram will let you export the diagram to a Metafile or SVG which you can then convert to the AutoCAD format using the tools that you mentioned.
The DiagramBuilder sample is featured with the export option of exporting the diagram as a MetaFile. Kindly, refer this sample.
However, there is no provision at present to re-create an Essential Diagram document from any format other than the native one. The only way to go about providing import functionality would be through the creation of an SVG Import module for Essential Diagram that reads the SVG data (exported by AutoCAD) and then suitably interprets and converts into native diagram objects.
Currently Essential Diagram supports exporting the Diagram files into SVG file formats and however we have a feature request for importing SVG file functionality.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your interest in Essential Diagram.
Regards, Nagaraj.

Hi Usman,
As of now we don’t have support to export and import AutoCAD files and also We could not able to provide specific timeline since we don’t have any plan to implement this feature.
