forcibly making a cell to be the current cell at runtime

You call grid.CurrentCell.MoveTo, passing in the row and column index. There is an optional 3rd argument that allows you to make the cell editing (showing the edit cursor) or scroll it into view. If you are trying to do this when the grid has not been displayed yet, say in Form.Load, then you may also have to set grid.ForceCurrentCellMoveTo = true;
