Floating label position in bootstrap

Question

See the following screen shot in material theme where everything looks good. Followed by a screen shot of the same thing in bootstrap where the floating label has a very large gap - so large that it runs into the field above it. Any suggestions as to what is causing this? What is the css I could change to adjust this spacing?
