Customize field dropdownlist

Hello,

I'd like to add an icon to each item in the field dropdownlist, but the only way to accomplish this seems to be to use the ColumnTemplate, which requires you to create the operator and value selectors as well.  Is there another way to accomplish this?  In basic cases, this would not be a problem, but when binding to complex objects it's more problematic.  

If not an icon, then some other way to highlight the child objects in the list would be great, even if it was just bold text.

For future versions, it would be nice to have a FieldTemplate that allowed devs to just update the field dropdownlist.
