Preserve DocumentLinkAnnotations on merging documents

Question

We currently create single PDF's with a ToC etc... by merging multiple other PDF's. If any of the merged PDF's has a table of contents and uses DocumentLinkAnnotations to link the ToC to the relevant page they are lost upon creating the new PDF via merge. Is there any way to preserve these so they still link to the correct page?
