Can a dropdown popup be wider than the inout area?

Question

At the moment as dropdown is always as wide as the input area. I have some cases where it would be nice to have the popup wider than the input area. Not sure if its possible. It looks like that popup has a style which sets the width to a specific value so looks like its being done in the javascript.Is there anyway to override this?
