When using the Ink Annotaion other annotations are selected when clicked.

When drawing ink annotations and clicking on an existing annotation the viewer selects the annotation instead of drawing over it. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Hi Todd,

Thank you for contacting Syncfusion support.

On analyzed further, we found that we have resolved the similar issue “the existing ink annotation gets selected while adding another annotation inside the bounds” in the version 18.3.0.35. Please find the release note details for the support in the below link,

This fix is available in our latest version of NuGet package which has been published in the nuget.org and please find the link below:

We suspect that you are mentioning the same issue and request you to try our latest version of PDF Viewer to check whether the issue is resolved. If you still face the issue, please provide us the following details that will be helpful for us to analyze more and provide you a better solution.

1. Replication steps to reproduce the issue at our end
2. Syncfusion Product version.

Regards,
Divya

I have upgraded to version 19.1.0.69 and I see the issue was addressed in release 18.3.0.35 but I am still having the same problem. Is there a setting that needs to updated in order for this to work?

Hi Todd,

We have checked the issue “the existing ink annotation gets selected while adding another annotation inside the bounds” in 19.1.0.69 and 18.3.0.35 version by drawing a new annotation inside the existing ink annotation and found the issue is not reproduced in our end.

We have created a video that has recorded the actions that we performed in the UI level to reproduce the issue and it can be downloaded from the below link.

The sample that we have used to reproduce the issue in the video can be downloaded from the below link.

Note:  In these changes, we allowed drawing an ink annotation inside the overall bounds. However, if you placed the cursor directly on the annotation to start drawing, the existing annotation will be selected based on the current behavior.

Kindly let know whether you mentioned the above issue or else we request you to modify the sample to reproduce the issue and provide us for further analysis.  Also, please share the detailed replication steps to reproduce the issue if the steps that we have used to reproduce the issue is different to that of yours.

Regards,
Divya

I think your solution described the issue, I don't want the annotation ever selected if the annotation mode is Ink. Selecting existing annotations, even when they are directly clicked makes it very difficult to write characters such as F or E that require multiple strokes. Is there any way this selection can be disabled altogether when using the Ink annotation mode?

Hi Todd,

Based on the details you have provided; we suspect that your requirement is to disable the ink annotation selection completely to draw characters which require multiple strokes. At present we do not have support to disable ink annotation selection. However, we can achieve your requirement of drawing characters which requires multiple strokes using handwritten signature support.

Please find the below UG link to know more about handwritten signature support in WPF PDF Viewer,

We have also created a video reference to add handwritten signature into PDF Viewer, it can be downloaded from the below link

We request you to try the handwritten signature and let us know which helps to achieve your requirement.

Divya

Subject: RE: Syncfusion Forum [166625] has a new reply - When using the Ink Annotaion other annotations are selected when clicked.

The handwritten signature does work as we require except it does not draw directly on the pdf document so its not going to be a solution for us.

This is till a problem. It makes the tool non functional in a real environment.

Patrick, at present, we do not have support for “Disabling Ink annotation selection while adding annotations”. Based on the problems described in your update, we are currently checking your requirement and we will update you the further details.
