Support for Word equations? Is there a list of non-supported features.

I have observed that when I load a Word doc containing equations in SfRichTextBoxAdv the equations are blank. I can understand that equations might not be supported, but is there any plan to support them? Also, is there a list somewhere of Word features that are not supported by SfRichTextBoxAdv?

Hi Peter Todd,

Thank you for using Syncfusion products.

At present, our SfRichTextBoxAdv does not supports equations. Could you please provide us the following details? So, that we can able to analyze in detail with your requirement and log the requirement as feature request in our data base.

1. The equations present in the Word document is legacy equations or MathML equations?
2. Could you please share the sample Word documents contains the equations used at your end?

Regarding the unsupported features:
When the SfRichTextBoxAdv control encounters an unsupported element, it does not render the element, instead, it continues to the next supported element and render it. Hence these unsupported elements will not be preserved on resaving the document. Examples of unsupported elements are AutoShapes, watermarks, charts, SmartArt, WordArt, equations, document structure tags, styles, wrapping styles, fields other than hyperlinks, absolutely positioned tables, and absolutely positioned images. This information is already documented as note in the following UG link,

Thanks for your response. We are using SfRichTextBoxAdv to allow our clients to enter and edit notes in our application. We save the notes in HTML format (to a cloud database) for inter-operability with our Xamarin/IOS app (we use an HTML editor for Xamarin). Our clients frequently paste text from Word into the notes field. I was also thinking I would add a feature to load a Word file from disk. I don't know how often our clients would have equations in their Word docs--probably not too often, but it could happen. Clients could have either the old or new equation format, but probably the new format is much more likely. I noticed that when equations are pasted they seem to be converted to pictures (the alignment can be off though), but when they are loaded they are omitted entirely. It seems a bit strange that pasting works better than loading. As things stand it seems better to not allow clients to load Word documents because the result is worse than when pasting. I attached the original test doc, and three pictures illustrating what happens to equations in a small section of the doc (hopefully self explanatory).

Hi Peter Todd,

Thank you for sharing the requested details.

We have analyzed the documents and attached screenshots. As we said earlier currently, our SfRichTextBoxAdv does not supports the equations. We logged your requirement as feature request. We will implement this feature in any of our forthcoming releases. We usually have a timeframe of at least three months between releases. At this moment, we cannot provide any timeline for implementing this feature. The feature implementation would also greatly depend on the factors like product design, code compatibility and complexity. We request you to visit our website periodically for feature related updates.

Regards,
Venkatesan M.
