Converting Word To Pdf : font rendering issues

Hi,

I'm very happy that converting Word to Pdf is now available for DocIO over ASP.NET Core.
While testing it a bit, I'm disapointed on the rendering between original Word document and converted PDF.
See attached file to compare Word document and PDF converted document.

Font issues :
- I'm using Aria Font and I noticed that some characters like "apostrophe" are causing positioning issues
- Font looking is not the same
- Also some bold texts are not well displayed

Table issues :
- Some Word tables have wrong positioning when converted to PDF

When final customers will use this feature, they will complain because of different rendering ; this is for sure. Furthermore, they are used to print as PDF (with PDF Creator or other tools) with a perfect rendering.

Can this be fixed/improved for next releases ?

Is there a specific font to use to avoid conversion differences ?

Hi Lopes,

Thank you for contacting Syncfusion support.

We have used SkiaSharp graphics library as a dependent to perform Word to PDF conversion in ASP.Net Core platform. On further analyzing, we have found that the reported issue was caused due to font retrieving in the SkiaSharp graphics library. This issue will be fixed once the font retrieving problem fixed in SkiaSharp.

Also, we will provide an support to use Font in Word to PDF conversion if it is not retrieved properly from SkiaSharp. Currently we are working on this and it will be included in our 2018 Volume 2 release which is expected to available on end of May, 2018.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Lopes,

Thank you for your update.

We have implemented the support to use font substitution in Word to PDF conversion in ASP.Net Core platform and the font mismatch issue is resolved. It will be included in our Essential Studio 2018 Volume 2 release which is expected to be rolled out on 8th June, 2018.

After fixing the font mismatch issue, we have found some other preservation problems, which is due to the size calculation of text using SkiaSharp Graphics library. We have used SkiaSharp Graphics library as a dependence in DocIORenderer. The size of text measured using SkiaSharp Graphics are varied with other Graphics measuring, so some preservation differences (table position) exist in the generated PDF. We have considered this at our end and currently it is not feasible to overcome all the problems related to SkiaSharp Graphics functionality. It need to be fixed in case by case and we will fixed these SkiaSharp Graphics related problems in any of our further releases.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
