Cell renderer

What is the correct order of events in displaying an in-place editor control for a cell.

We have a standard text box control for numeric editing.
I have a cell renderer displaying this control. What I'm trying to do is to place the caret at the end of the cell text whichever way the cell is activated. Where should I place that code.

I have had some samples from support for DoubleTextBox rendering, which is a similar control, but they are inadequate and I'm not sure that they are coded to best practice.

Any help much appreciated
