The Challenge

KeyScript’s small size means the ability to reuse code for different development projects is a high priority. Tim Dol, a senior developer at KeyScript, was frustrated that he couldn’t use one design for both the Office 2007/2010 and Office 2013 styles. His component vendor at the time did not feature an Office 2013 theme, which led him to evaluate Essential Studio for Windows Forms.

The Solution

After using Syncfusion’s controls for about two months, with occasional help from the Syncfusion support team during the development process, Dol was able to replace a lot of OOXML SDK code with much more efficient code. Essential Studio for Windows Forms provided the ribbon implementation needed to successfully design templates for all versions of Microsoft Office.

Dol utilized the Excel tools and Word document generator to create custom templates for KeyScript’s clients. The Excel tool reads large input data streams, converts them to XML, allows the user to compare files, and filters them based on one or more criteria.

Dol intends to use Syncfusion controls to build a Word document generator with plugins for documents and document sets. For example, if an HR department hires a new employee, a number of documents will be created, such as a contract, an accompanying letter, and a memo for the security department. These documents share a lot of information about the user and will therefore be created as a set. A recruiter would fill in the details about the new employee and create a work list item for an HR advisor. The recruiter could then check the data, perhaps add to or edit it, and then create a work list item for the HR office. After a final check, HR can create all the documents at once and store them so that they can be found afterwards. Dol plans to use the 2007, 2010, and 2013 themes provided in Essential Studio for Windows Forms to match the Office version used by the client.
