Research Triangle Park, N.C.—May 23, 2013 —Syncfusion, Inc., today announced the newest release of Metro Studio, which includes 800 new icons, increasing the total number of icons to 2,500. Metro Studio helps Microsoft developers create icons for modern user interface applications, making it a popular tool that is actively used by thousands of developers worldwide. Initially released in May of 2012, the sheer number of icons and the simplicity of Metro Studio’s design interface set it apart from other design applications.
Metro Studio icons can now be added to customize an app bar, which is a type of toolbar that provides users with access to an app’s most commonly used functions. This new feature allows developers to add icons to the app bar quickly by generating XAML code that can be pasted in an app. In addition, Metro Studio helps maintain consistency across applications on a phone or tablet screen.
“A lot of the additions were based on customer requests,” said Senior Product Manager Stephen Jebaraj. “New categories of icons, like Transportation and People, were also included, and more icons were added to all existing categories.”
Developers such as Chari Field have found unique ways to incorporate Metro Studio’s icons into projects. According to Field, who created Hexadecimal, a touch-friendly operating system interface for Windows, “finding the right tools to make perfect software is always a challenge. Syncfusion’s Metro Studio is exactly what I need!”
Development firm SmartCodeWorks used Metro Studio to create the logo and icons for its new Windows Phone app, BrisbaneBus, which provides bus stop locations, arrival times, and other updates for bus travelers in Brisbane, Australia.
This new version also added more keywords to the metadata index, making it easier for users to search for specific icons. As with all releases of Metro Studio, this release is free to the Microsoft development community. The next release of Metro Studio promises even more new icons, as well as further enhancements to the studio’s usability.
