How do I create a Hyperlink Column in the Grid?

1 min read

The following steps show how you can add a HyperLink Column using the Template Editor.

1. Add the Column that will have the hyperlink control using the GridColumnDescriptor Collection Editor that can be launched by clicking on the TableDescriptor.Columns property.

2. Right-click on the Grid and choose Edit Template->Column Templates.

3. Choose the Column that will have the Hyperlink Control and click Done.

4. This brings up the Item Templates Editor for the Grid. Modify the ItemTemplate by adding the HyperLink Control from the VS.NET Toolbox.

5. Right-click on the Template Editor and choose End Template Editing. This will close the Template Editor.

6. Switch to the HTML-view and modify the template.

<ItemTemplate> <asp:HyperLink id=HyperLink1 runat="server" NavigateUrl="<%#GetQuoteHyperLink(Container.StyleInfo.Text)%>" Target="_blank" EnableViewState="False"> <%# Container.StyleInfo.Text %> </asp:HyperLink></ItemTemplate>

7. Set up the GetQuoteHyperlink() function in the cs/vb file:

C#

protected string GetQuoteHyperLink(string stockName)
{
return "http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=" + stockName;

}

VB

Protected Function GetQuoteHyperLink(ByVal stockName As String) As String
Return "http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=" & stockName
End Function
