Cross data source filtering support in Dashboard designer

The Syncfusion Dashboard Designer application lets you connect to data and visualize them as dashboards using data visualization and filter widgets. Dashboard Filters allows you to control the interdependency of widgets in a dashboard w.r.t dynamic user interactions. In Dashboard designer you can enable the relationship(interaction) between two widgets even if they are configured using the different data source connection. Please follow the below steps to achieve the cross data source filtering in the Dashboard designer application.

Creating Dashboards with multiple data sources

In Syncfusion Dashboard designer, You can create a dashboard report with multiple data sources.

In the below example, we create two data sources using the Excel and SQL server connection types.

Step 1: Creating an Excel data source

Step 2: Creating a SQL server data source

Now Configure the widgets using the fields available in the added data sources:

Step 3: Configuring a grid widget with the SQL data source.

Step 4: Creating a Chart widget with the Excel data source.

Filtering the widgets

Now you can filter the chart widget from the grid widget. It is possible to perform cross data source filtering using the custom profile option provided in the filter configuration window. Please refer the UG documentation for detailed explanation on using the filter configuration window. The filter configuration window can be opened by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F or from the Filters… menu item provided in the Dashboard menu.

Now the filters configuration window will be opened.

Step 5: Create a filter profile

Now Select the master widget and listener widgets from the filter configuration window. The grid widget will be master widget and chart will work as a listener widget.

Use the custom option in the filter profiles and selected the required fields as shown in the below image:

Step 6: Changing the target data source and columns

Now select Save and update the filter as shown in the above screenshot.

Filtering in Dashboard viewer:

Now the cross-data source filtering will be working while interacting with the master-listener widgets. You can select the value in the master widget to perform filtering in slave widgets. This can be previewed in the dashboard viewer in the dashboard preview.

The designed dashboard report will be rendered in the dashboard viewer as shown in the following screenshot.

Step 7: Previewing the dashboard and selecting values in the master widget

Select the values in the master widget to perform filtering. The slave widget will be filtered based on the selection in the master widget even if they are using different data sources. You can see that the chart widget which is using the Excel data source is filtered based on its master grid widget which uses the SQL server data source.

Step 8 : Filtering in the slave widget
