GGC CellValueType Sort and Filter behavior

I have a GridGroupingControl bound to a DataTable. In the DataTable I have a String DataColumn with values that look like Integers. I set the .CellValueType = typeof(int). When I then try to Sort or Filter the values in the column they behave like strings not ints. How can I achieve the desired Sort/Filter behavior?
