Applying background colors without focusing on the editor leads to a console error

Description: When the background toolbar option is opened without focusing on the editor, a console error occurs.

Sample: 
Je9tvg (forked) - StackBlitz

Replication Steps:

  1. Run the sample.
  2. Without focusing on the editor, directly open the background color popup.
  3. Observe the console for errors.

Expected Behaviour:
The console error should not occur when opening the background toolbar option and applying a color directly.

Actual Behavior:
A console error occurs when the background toolbar option is opened and a color is applied without focusing on the editor.
