When switching between a clicking custom next button and clicking a step, the stepper get confused

Hi,

I have a stepper setup like so

Empty

and I have a previous and next button that executes the code

Empty


Now when I switch between clicking the next/previous button and clicking a random step in the stepper, the next and previous buttons stop working or get confused what next step to generate.
