Improve performance with large number of rows

Is there a way to fix the performance issue when dataset contains more than 1000 rows?

Each component rerender may take seconds or dozens of seconds (the time grows proportionally to the dataset size) and the page freezes
We have enabled virtualization (it was a minor improvement but it is still very far from being acceptable)
