I tried for quite awhile to figure out why TreeGrid was showing "No records" until I finally found that it silently chokes when there's a top level item which has no children. Logically the associated fields would be set as ParentId=null, and no other items referencing the Id of that item.

One consequence of this bug is that TreeGrid apparently can never display just one item.

I'm fairly astonished that this wasn't identified and fixed long ago. It doesn't help that Syncfusion's test data has no cases with top level items and no children, including the case of a single item.
