Update and Unlink IF-Field without ELSE branch results in "\* " instead of empty string

Hi,
if I update and unlink an IF-field which doesn't have an ELSE branch the result text is "\* " if the condition fails which obviously comes from the "\* MERGEFORMAT" string.

Empty

Expected value is an empty string which is also the case if field is updated via MS Word.

See complete sample attached. I think the problem lies within the update functionality because the Text property of the field already shows the wrong value after the update.
