Better options for custom handling of clipboard content during paste

It doesn't seem like it's possible to process content from the clipboard manually before inserting it. This would make a big difference in cases, where the built-in formatting and clean up options aren't sufficient.

It could be that I'm overlooking an option, but I haven't found any working examples of this feature. If it is already possible to do this, please point me in the right direction :-)
