Need to Prevent default Delete action while focus is on MultiLine textbox control

I use in some Grids multiline textboxes to edit text. The Enter keypress is often used in editing of multiline data. To prevent save record on Enter click event handler or stoppropagation could be used.
The trouble is with Delete key. It does not fire keypress, keydown or keyup event at all, at least in Chrome. What is the way to prevent the delete record event another way?
