Essential Studio 2008 Volume 2 Back Office Edition
April 8, 2008: As Essential Studio 2008 Volume 2 has been released, information contained in this roadmap is superceded by the What's New information.
Essential Studio for Back Office includes five data processing product packages the .NET platform. This roadmap details the changes and enhancements to these packages that will be made available as part of Essential Studio 2008 Volume 2 (Scheduled to be released on April, 7th, 2008).
The products included in Essential Studio for Back Office are
- Essential PDF
- Essential XlsIO
- Essential DocIO
- Essential Grouping
- Essential Calculate
Note: Some of the features listed in this roadmap are subject to change.
Release Cycle
Syncfusion releases a new version of Essential Studio for Back Office three times every calendar year. Each new release includes bug fixes and enhancements. In addition, new products could also be added to the studio in some cases.
Common Roadmap for all products
The theme for any upcoming version of Essential Studio for Back Office is influenced by the latest technologies currently available/on the horizon. For Essential Studio 2008 Volume 2, the technologies under consideration are
- Microsoft Office 2007 file formats.
- Performance and footprint usage improvements.
- Enhanced VS 2008 support.
In addition, each product will have domain specific advances. Please refer to the sections below.
Information about products that will impact existing applications in terms of requiring code changes and application behavior will be marked as such in the details below.
Roadmap for Essential PDF
Essential PDF 2008 Volume 2 will add support for reading in and manipulating existing PDF files. The file manipulation support will include adding new pages to existing documents, merging documents and retaining user rights among others. The next version will also have support for PDF forms and complex tables.
Roadmap for Essential XlsIO
Essential XlsIO will support enhanced Excel 2007 file creation using the library Application Programming Interface (API). This version will also support pivot tables as defined in Microsoft Excel.
Roadmap for Essential DocIO
Essential DocIO expands its feature set to include Table of Contents (TOC) insertion, formatting support for Word 2007 Docx file format and support for built in styles. The memory footprint of the library will also experience improvements.
