Syncfusion Releases Essential Studio 2013 Volume 2 with Intuitive Controls for Line-of-Business WinRT Applications

Volume 2 adds tools and enhancements to its WinRT offering and reporting suite

Research Triangle Park, N.C.—May 28, 2013Syncfusion, Inc., a leading provider of components for Windows development, today announced the release of Essential Studio Enterprise Edition 2013 Volume 2, which adds new tools and enhancements to its WinRT offering and reporting suite. In accordance with the Windows UI guidelines, each new WinRT feature is touch friendly, providing an intuitive, tactile approach to the new rich text editor, PDF viewer, scheduler and date-range picker controls.

"Touch is a major paradigm shift," notes Daniel Jebaraj, vice president of Syncfusion. "Most new applications have to treat touch as a first-class user-interaction paradigm and design based on it. Users should be able to use an application in tablet mode and seamlessly switch to using a regular keyboard. This is the kind of productivity model that Windows 8 promises, and in order to play well in this ecosystem, one that every application should embrace."

Key new features in Volume 2 include the following:

  • WinRT Studio: Six new WinRT controls were added including a new tree map, sparkline and calculator.
  • Report Viewer: Features a dozen enhancements applicable to any .NET platform including page breaks, hierarchy groups, filters, document maps and more.
  • RDL reporting: Large RDL reports can be exported to PDF with minimal memory usage.

"We expect more and more applications will expose key business functionality while taking advantage of the tablet form factor," states Jebaraj. "There has been a huge amount of consumer application development on mobile platforms over the past few years, but business development has lagged. With Windows 8 and the WinRT platform, business applications can enable key business functions with essentially the same tools used to build desktop and web applications."

A detailed list of new features can be found in the What’s New section of Syncfusion’s website. A full evaluation version of Essential Studio Enterprise Edition is available from www.syncfusion.com/downloads/evaluation.
